Mexican-American author Valeria Luiselli is known worldwide for her uniquely evocative novels and equally compelling essay collections. In a representative review, Electric Literature called her 2014 debut, experimental ghost story Faces in the Crowd, “one of those rare books that manages to upend one’s idea of what might be possible in fiction.” Her follow-ups include The Story of My Teeth (2015), winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in 40 Questions, a finalist for the Kirkus Prize. Luiselli reached a still wider audience with Lost Children Archive (2019), a lyrical novel about a family whose road trip across America collides with a mounting immigration crisis at the southern border. It won the prestigious Dublin Literary Award and Andrew Carnegie Medal, among other high honors. Luiselli’s newest, out in July 2026, is a road novel of a different sort. In Beginning Middle End, a mother and teenaged daughter travel to Sicily on a hunt to discover their family roots. In an early review, Publishers Weekly concludes: “It’s a masterpiece… arresting and layered.”
